Fabric Requirements

You have found a pattern, you want to get fabric, but how much should you buy?  Following are two different sets of fabric requirements for the Pacific Rim Quilt Company patterns on this website.  Use the table that suits your fabric buying philosophy:  Generous Quantities or Adequate Quantities.

E-mail us if you have any questions at all.

GENEROUS QUANTITIES:

If you are like Janice, you want to buy plenty of fabric.  No cutting corners here.  Janice wants to have fabric left over when she is done with a quilt.  If you can relate to that philosophy, following are the generous fabric requirements for our Pacific Rim Quilt patterns.  For the Block and Wall patterns this will give you enough fabric to make the quilt binding from either the appliqué or the background fabric.  These are not overly generous amounts, you still need to use your fabric wisely.

Yardages based on 44" wide fabric.  If you buy wider fabrics you will have that much more left over and be that much happier!

Remember that our minimum fabric cut is 1 yard.

ADEQUATE QUANTITIES:
If you are like other people we know, you only want to buy the exact amount of fabric you need for the quilt at hand,  no more and no less.  So the detailed requirements for each pattern are listed below.

Yardages based on 44" wide fabric.  In most cases you need the same yardage in wider fabrics, you just may be able to avoid adding extra for the binding.

Remember that our minimum fabric cut is 1 yard.
Of course, you can always go with Janice's motto:  "If in doubt, buy more!"

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

The easy way:  Buy 1 yard * of two fabrics.  You will have enough of either fabric to bind your quilt.**

The conservative way:  Buy 1 yard * of the fabric you plan to use for binding**, buy 3/4 yard of the second fabric.

*For a directional print, consider buying 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 yard to allow for the length of the quilt to be parallel with the selvage edge of the fabric.

** The finished size of the 2FAQ quilts is 24" x 36".  You will start with two fabrics measuring 27" x 39", the extra fabric from either piece is what you will use for binding.  See pattern and instructions for more detail.

E-mail us if you have any questions at all.
